Shephard Shejohn 10 Ontario Parry Sound Perry Township 29 1 10

10 2 Shephard Shejohn M Boarder S Apr 1901 10

His name is listed as Shejohn, but his name is Arthur John. It also lists his last name as Shephard, it is actually spelled Shepperd. The last thing, it says his birth year is 1901, when he was born April 21 1899 in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. This is my husbands gr. gr uncle and he was a Dr. Barnardo home child. He also had 3 sisters that came to Canada as home children. They are listed as Shepherd, when it should be Shepperd. Their info is:

Shepherd Ellen 13 Ontario Lincoln Louth 29 2 41

41 17 Shepherd Ellen F Domestic S Oct 1898 13

This lists Ellen as being born Oct 1898, but she was born 14 Dec 1897. Her last name is spelled Shepherd, and it should be Shepperd.

Shepherd Emma 16 Ontario Lincoln Clinton 8 11 14

14 113 Shepherd Emma F Domestic S Feb 1895 16

Emma's birthday is 17 Nov 1895 and her last should also be spelled Shepperd

Not sure if I did this right, but hopefully. I can provide documentation if needed. Please let me know

Thanks so much

LorShepps,

The transcription for each of the three entries, reflect exactly what the enumerator wrote, therefore no correction required.

What if I find an error in the original census?
If the error is in the original census document:

- a surname note provides an alternate surname spelling and allows the members of this family to be identified in the result of a search done on this alternate spelling. When entering a surname note, indicate if it applies to the entire family or only to this individual. Also, please include the bibliographical reference to the source that corroborates the surname provided, and if applicable, add an associated note.

You will find much more information on this at Surname Notes

-for a discrepancy in the given name, gender, and/or date of birth - an online or off-line birth record link is the preferred way to annotate the correct information.

Adding Sheppard as an alternate surname for Shephard, Shepherd is not required because they share the same soundex code: S163.

The 1911-BHC link has been done for Arthur John, Ellen and Emma.

Cheers,
